Tips from 10 Highly Successful Working Women
It’s really easy to get burned out as an entrepreneur. There is just so much to do when you own a business. Add to that raising a family, trying to have a social life, and wanting to help others, and it’s easy to see why so many women business owners are feeling overwhelmed and tired.
That’s part of the reason I started my Facebook for women business owners, Own It. Crush It. I wanted to create a safe space for creative entrepreneurs to share their stresses and learn coping techniques (along with other business ideas, plus have some fun).
Also, I wanted to share some real-life methods for stress management for entrepreneurs, from 10 awesome women business owners. I hope their advice helps you. And I’d love to hear in the comments below how you manage your stress!
“The best way to manage stress is to stay focused. Focus on goals, your business, and yourself. After getting eight hours of sleep, I start every morning with an hour of exercise. While I’m exercising, I listen to business books to stay updated on my industry. Then, I eat a healthy breakfast and take a shower. While in the shower, I relax and think about the day ahead. This routine jumpstarts my day by leaving me ready for work before I even get to the office. When I’m at the office, I make a list of only three items. These are overarching goals that I need to achieve for the day. By sticking to a routine and working with a list, the day is easier to tackle and less stressful.” Vladimir Gendelman
“I ask myself, “Is this going to matter in a year?” Hilary Hendershott
“Journaling! When i do a thought download I can clearly analyze and see from another perspective, if what I am thinking is something to really be stressed about. Is it true what I’m thinking? Or is my brain running on default.” Angie Gross
“I have a daily gratitude practice that I do each morning/evening. It keeps me focused on all of the wonderful things I have in my life, and that simple process allows me to let a lot of my stress go. It’s simple, yet powerful.” Karen Davis
“Count backwards from 10. It sounds SO simple and almost nonsensical, but by giving yourself 10 seconds to really feel all the emotions that stress brings you, and then walk yourself out of it by counting backwards, it triggers your brain to move out of that feeling when it gets to 1 and you say, now let it go, or let’s do this, or whatever phrase motivates you out of the stress. Stress gets overwhelming because we allow it to debilitate and paralyze us, instead of using it to fuel us to move faster, work smarter, think bigger.” Mallory Schlabach
“My best stress management tip is to make a list! Get it out of your head and onto paper so you can manage it.” Fightress Aaron
“My favorite tool is to create opportunities for connection that act as reminders of the things that I am lucky to have. For example, my anniversary is on the 22nd of June so I text ’22’ to my partner if I happen to notice that it’s 22 minutes after the hour. If my daughter and I start to argue one of us will often jokingly scold the other with a ‘Bad Baby!’ and we will both crack up laughing. It reminds me that even when individual moments are difficult, there’s so much to celebrate.” Aki Raymer
“Walk away and take a complete mental break for 20 minutes.” Moira Kirk Cleary
“It’s easy to get sucked into overwhelm as a small business owner. Add kids and a personal life into the mix and the fact that there never seems to be enough time in the day…I tend to jump on the stress train pretty quickly, and while I love to go for a good run or take some time out to just be with my kiddo, my go-to to de-stress is the opposite of productive. When my head is spinning and my to-do list is out of control, I turn it all off and take a nap. Being able to do this calms my mind and lets me jump back onto my computer with a clear head and a renewed energy. It’s literally the best.” Abby Herman
“My best stress management tip is to exercise. It’s fulfilling when we’re able to burn calories and move our body.” Christina Ramas
“As a busy mom, entrepreneur and wife, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and stressed out. The biggest tip I have for others chasing their dreams is to make YOU a priority and schedule time for you to have movement, good food, sleep and YOU time each day. We are programed to think this is a luxury and everyone must come before us. And that true income producing activities involve action items like phone calls, meetings, coaching sessions, etc. This is a lie we have been told and it’s time to change the patterns. Showing up for us and taking care of us allows us to be more centered and peaceful and show up as the best business owner, mom and wife that we can be. It focuses us and recanters us so that we can shine in the way only we can shine and creates more peace and more results than we ever thought were possible.” Katie Glasgow
